• Time is of the essence
• Veterinary care is a must because the dog must be monitored to determine if the dog even needs antivenom
• Check with Vet for availability of antivenom
• Consult with a vet to acquire an “Epipen” (epinephrine) for immediate shock prevention; this will help save the dogs life while in transit to the vet, especially if the time/distance is long.
• Antivenom is a natural remedy
Myths
• Herbal remedies can cure snakebite
• The venom can be sucked out
• Leave dog alone, he/she will recover naturally
• Coral snakes cannot bite dogs because their fangs are too short
